Nashville: July 2022

One of my friends told me that when your first friend gets married it marks the start of a wave of bachelorettes, weddings, and proposals that basically continues for your entire 20s-30s. I think she was right! This particular bachelorette is very special because it is one of my longest time friends.

Growing up, many of the families my parents were friends with were immigrant families as well. Many of them include physicians since many met during their residencies and fellowships, and being international medical graduates from India was a bonding experience. This friend is one of the daughters that I grew up knowing through my parents but now are some of the people who know me best. We may not see each other more than once or twice a year, but I know that they always have my back.

This bachelorette weekend started off in complete chaos, which I’d assume is the norm. But somehow, over 6 medical students from all over the country managed to fly in to last-minute during third year of medical school, where you are at your peak time crunch and have almost zero flexibility in your schedule, to celebrate our special bride-to-be for a weekend in Nashville. We all agree that the bar has now been set high; no one’s bachelorettes can be missed going forward. If we can make it happen as medical students, there are no excuses!
