New Year Reflections
I’ve never been the type of person to make New Year resolutions. I’m honestly too impatient; if I want to make something happen, I just don’t want to wait around for January 1st to do that. However, I am a big new year reset person, where I take some time to reflect on the life and the things that I want to carry with me or improve as I take on the new year. There is something extremely grounding about a fresh start and setting new intentions. Here are bits of things I reflected on, shoutout Jay Shetty’s December 16th podcast for the inspiration, and personal goals I hope to accomplish in 2023.
The best book I read in 2022:
Fiction: American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins.
Nonfiction: Single. On Purpose. by John Kim.
What made me the happiest this year: I have a lot to be thankful for from 2022, so I’m going to say two sort of related things. First is definitely seeing the hard work I put in in the gym and school finally start to pay off. First unassisted pull up, first unassisted dip, and first official publication… yay! Second has to be my white coat ceremony, even if it was two years late. Sometimes I forget in the day to day grind how much of an honor it is to get to be a physician one day, but that is one of those symbolic moments I still will never forget.
What is a lesson I finally learned: accepting that sometimes the things that are the best choice for you in the long term don’t feel so great in the short term. I’ve learned to trust my gut feeling.
What are some goals I have for 2023?
More low impact movement— pilates, hot yoga, walking.
Read 20 books. Add me on GoodReads if you want to follow along!
Go to more concerts and new live music venues. I absolutely love music but have definitely let that slip as I get busier. I am aiming for 1 at least every 2 months, if not more!
Meet new people. Making friends outside of what you do for work after undergrad is really difficult, especially when everyone is busy and on a different schedule. In 2023, I want to be less of a homebody and show up to more events outside of my comfort zone because I have met some of the most interesting people in the most unexpected places.
Learn to cook/bake more things. As someone who lives alone, I default to some pretty basic meals. This year, I would love to get more adventurous in the kitchen.
New podcasts. I am open to recommendations on any podcasts in the world of nutrition, mindfulness, and current events!
